Will Wilbanks, son of Cas Wilbanks and a cousin of Sheriff Wilbanks, was a popular young man of Eton, Murray County, Georgia. He played baseball for the home team. In the summer of 1909, while playing at Fairmount, he was struck hard by a baseball, causing a wound which wouldn't heal. Over the next several weeks, the injury worsened and blood poisoning set in. Will Wilbanks died of blood poisoning, Tuesday, September 7, at the age of twenty-two. His story appears on the front page of The Dalton Argus, September 16, 1909.
