Enlisted: 7 September 1861
Enlistment Place: (Woodbridge) Hillsdale, Michigan
Private, Company G, 2nd Reg. V. Vol. Cavalry

[Note: the "V" is either a typo of "M," or means something other than the state; Robert's unit is known: Co. G, 2nd Regt. Michigan Vol. Cavalry].

(First) Honorable Discharge: 4 Jan. 1864

Reenlistment: Reenlisted as Veteran Volunteer.

Disability: amputation received in battle. [Note: Actually, the amputation was surgical, after battle]

Final Honorable Discharge: 13 July 1865, Detroit, Michigan.

Marriage Facts:
Agnes Dow married Robert McDougall
3 September 1867, Hillsdale, Michigan.
Married by Rev. H. E. Whipple.
[Neither had been previously married; not divorced; never remarried].

Death: 27 August 1919, Monrovia, California.

...including the words Sept. erased, and the words December added; [note: this refers to the birth date of Andrew D. McDougall, whose birth date originally had "Sept.," which was stricken through, and "December" typed above it.

Genealogy Notes: Robert McDougall, born in Scotland. Immigrated to America, moved to Woodbridge, Hillsdale, Michigan. Enlisted as a private in Company G, Second Michigan Cavalry Vols, Hillsdale, Michigan. Promoted to Corporal, was a division scout. Wounded, shot in left knee by rebels during a scouting expedition from Cleveland, Tennessee, into northern Murray County, Georgia. Cared for by Polly Headrick (widow of old Jacob Headrick). Left leg amputated by surgeon. Robert McDougall survived the war and later married Agnes P. McDougall on 3 September 1867. He and his family later resided in Monrovia, California.
