Article: Fred S. Sutherland, the steeplejack, died in California after being attacked by a dog while visiting friends. [Source 1]: Steuben Republican, Angola, Indiana, Wednesday, 17 September 1947, Page 16. [Page not certain; this is the gist of details from some scrambled OCR text, but it might be helpful in locating the article. If anyone has access and can send me a clipping, please comment on this post.]

Note: Various articles on Fred Sutherland appeared in the Steuben Republican, because Sutherland's first wife, Lulu Ogden, was from there. Her people lived in Hamilton, Steuben County, Indiana, around 1900 or so. They later lived in Michigan. After Lulu married Sutherland, the couple moved to Sutherland's home state of California.

Genealogy Notes: Robert McDougall, born in Scotland. Immigrated to America, moved to Woodbridge, Hillsdale, Michigan. Enlisted as a private in Company G, Second Michigan Cavalry Vols, Hillsdale, Michigan. Promoted to Corporal, was a division scout. Wounded, shot in left knee by rebels during a scouting expedition from Cleveland, Tennessee, into northern Murray County, Georgia. Cared for by Polly Headrick (widow of old Jacob Headrick). Left leg amputated by surgeon. Robert McDougall survived the war and later married Agnes P. McDougall on 3 September 1867. He and his family later resided in Monrovia, California.

George William Crowson

This research relates to a George William Crowson, born in England, who immigrated to the U.S. and later moved west to California. He died in Oregon and was buried in California. Originally, I had looked at him to try to distinguish him from a Crowson of a very similar name, whose family had moved from Tennessee, to Georgia, out west to Oregon, and finally, to the state of Washington. The two individuals do not appear to be related at all.
