Note from my research:
Property in Murray County, Georgia, was purchased about 1851. It later passed to the known offspring of Jacob and Polly (Rice) Headrick, including a portion to William Headrick. William's portion later went to Mary C. Emert and her offspring. [Later, some of it went through the hands of W.A.L. Headrick's offspring, including my granny, Esther (Headrick) Pritchett.

Mary C. Emert is listed in William Headrick's Civil War pension application (rejected ; paid as civilian scout; not due any further pay or any military pension from US);
--William Headrick, Cohutta Springs, Murray County, Georgia: Selected pension document entitled "Invalid," stamped 9 Jan. 1892: William states that his wife is "Mary C Emert" and says: "We was married in Blount county Tennessee September the fifth 1843." [Note that the marriage date is a few days off from the document on record in Blount County, Tennessee]. William further states that "the records of our marriage was Burnt in the court House at marysville Tenn." He lists his living children as "Rhoda Headrick born Feb 1845; Jacob Headrick December 1850; Daniel Headrick bornd July 1853; John Headrick bornd December 1855; Drussilla Headrick bornd March 1861; William Headrick bornd July 1863." [The word "born" is capitalized].

William Headrick and Sarah Quincey Davis

William Headrick and Sarah Quincey Davis ~ from the files of Southern Muse:

William "Bill" Headrick was born 1 August 1878 in Georgia [son of John and Rhoda (Dunn) Headrick]; died 30 March 1956 in Milledgeville, Baldwin County, Georgia.

Bill married Sarah Quincey Davis on 15 January 1899, in Murray County, Georgia. Sarah was born 10 August 1880 in Georgia. Her mother was Ann Jackson. Her father is not yet known. Bill and Quincey had the following children, all born in Georgia:

One unknown or unnamed child, probably born between 1899 and 1900, who died before 1900 (Quincey is listed in the 1900 census as having one child, deceased); Enoch Chester Headrick, born 01 October 1901, died 17 February 1983 in Murray County, Georgia; Franch Headrick, born 03 May 1904, died October 1974 in Rome, Floyd County, Georgia; Lela Clair Headrick, born 22 November 1906, died 16 April 1977 in Murray County, Georgia; Leona Mae Headrick, born 11 May 1911, died 22 October 1934, in Crandall, Murray, Georgia; and Sudie Headrick, born 17 December 1913, died 23 November 1931 in Murray County, Georgia.

Enoch married Della Mae Willis (born 24 Apr. 1906; died 11 Dec. 1978), and had Edward Samuel Headrick.

Lela Clair Headrick married William Franklin "Bud" Horn on 18 May 1924. Their children were DeEtta Mae Horn (born 06 Nov. 1926; died 23 Dec. 2003); and Marchel Horn (born 01 Aug. 1933; died 10 Dec. 2004)

Leona Mae Headrick married James Walter Robert Pritchett (see previous post, obituary of Mrs. J.W. Pritchett).

Sudie Headrick married Arvil Henry Pritchett (born 30 October 1902; died 07 February 1941 in Murray County, Georgia). They married 12 August 1929 in Murray County, Georgia. Their child: William Stephen Pritchett.

William Headrick - Deed for Gibson's Chapel, Murray County, Georgia (Headrick/Hilliard)

William Headrick and Gibson's Chapel

Murray Co., Ga.

Murray County, Georgia, Deed Book N, page 185:

Spring Place, Ga. May 23rd 1870.

Received of William Headrick five dollars for an interest in a piece of land in the 10th District of the 3 Section for a place to erect a church house, known as the Gibson Chapel.

Signed in behalf of the M.E. Church South.

Robert McCamy agent,
Recorded and certified for Sept 11th 1877 (date on my copy nearly illegible, could be different)
Signed by the clerk, ? N. Bramblett
———————
Cross-reference no. 1: Murray County Heritage, p. 312: “In 1855 George Gibson gave land for a Methodist Episcopal church located in land lot 91 (10th District, 3rd Section). Trustees for the church were James Julian, William Headrick, Peter Brakebill, Abasalom Ledford, and Johnathan Lusalor. This is believed to be the church known as Gibson’s Chapel where school was held in 1880.”

Cross-reference no. 2: Land lot 91, 10th District, 3rd section, Murray County, Georgia, is dispensed with in Deed Book 32, pp. 15-21, as it is conveyed by various Headrick/Hilliard heirs of James Headrick, dec’d, unto Lester Headrick.

Note: I’ve tried to trace the William Headrick above, but can’t be completely sure. My speculation is that he might be the brother of James Headrick (who married Minerva Stephenson). I have very little information on that William, but he was born about 1837-1838 and would be old enough to handle this land transaction of 1870. His brother, John B. Headrick, lived in Spring Place at one time, and had a granddaughter who married a Hilliard: John B. Headrick’s son, James Headrick, was the father of Lillie Bell Headrick, who married Amos W. Hilliard. This could be the Hilliard connection from the deed. However, I haven’t researched far enough to rule out some other Hilliard-Headrick connection, and I can’t find much information on John B. Headrick’s brother, William.

There is another William Headrick of the appropriate age in Murray County, but his land is in northern Murray, not Spring Place, and he has no close connections to the Hilliard family, as far as I know.

[Note: Lillie Bell Headrick’s mother, Sarah Dunn, is also descended from a Headrick.]
