Mention of Bud Boatner et al.,
Worley Chapel (community column), /Dade County Sentinel/ (Trenton, Dade, Georgia) 1901-1908, 24 February 1905, page 2 (digital image 2).
Obviously, this tidbit is tongue in cheek, but whatever is implied is up to each reader to guess. What is being implied? a harmless hunting party swiping some food, a secret getaway with 'hunting party' as a cover, an impromptu tailgate party, or some kind of revenge--for theft, perhaps? It is a puzzle. Interestingly, about three weeks later, Bud sold his land and left with his family for Hot Spring, Arkansas (see other note).
'Does anyone know anything of that hunting party? It was reported that Col. B. T. Brock, H. V. Taylor and Uncle John McMahan were on the mountain hunting a few days ago in the neighborhood of Mr. Bud Boatners, and since the party returned home to their DEARS, it has been reported that Mrs. Boatner has missed six chickens, a fat pig, a sheep and a lot of potatoes. An explanation from Uncle John Mack will be sufficient.'
