Obituary of Mrs. J.W. Pritchett, died 22 Oct 1934, Crandall, Murray County, Georgia

Extract of the Obituary of Mrs. J.W. Pritchett, reprinted in The Chatsworth Times on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, page B-8. It originally appeared on page 1 of The Chatsworth Times on Thursday, October 25, 1934.

Mrs. J. W. Pritchett, of Crandall, Georgia: Age: 23, died "Monday night." Survivors: Son, Leon; daughter, Margaret; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Headrick; brothers, Enoch and French Headrick; sister, Mrs. Bud Horne (all of Murray County). Funeral held: Calvary Baptist church, "Tuesday afternoon."

Officiator: Rev. Walter Harper. Burial: local cemetery. Funeral Home: Kenemer Brothers. Newspaper: The Chatsworth Times, Chatsworth, Georgia.

Leona Mae Headrick's date of death was 22 October 1934. She was born 11 May 1911 in Georgia, the daughter of William Headrick and Sarah Quincey Davis.

Leona married James Walter Robert Pritchett on 18 March 1929, in Polk County, Tennessee. James Walter, the son of Stephen Thomas and Alice Safronia (Murray) Pritchett, was born 30 January 1910 in Georgia.

James Walter and Leona Pritchett had two children: Edward Leon Pritchett (born in March, 1930); and Margaret Pritchett (born after 1931). Both chidren were born in Georgia.

The Headrick family were in Little Murray, in northern Murray County, Georgia, when the Tornado of 1932 struck the area. The houses where they took cover were struck by the tornado, but the family survived. During the storm, Bud Horne, Leona's brother-in-law, was blinded by ash from the fireplace.

Leona's late sister, Sudie Headrick, also died young (of tuberculosis). She was not quite 18 years old when she died of tuberculosis. She had married Arvil Henry Pritchett (James Walter's brother). Sudie left a young child, William Stephen Pritchett.

After Leona's death, James Walter Pritchett married Eula Lee Patterson on 29 April 1939, in Murray County, Georgia. They had three children (still living). Eula died in 1972.

James Walter Pritchett married (3) Lena Jane Peden. Lena was the widow of Luther David Pritchett. Lena out-lived James Walter R. Pritchett, and re-married to Silas Aldridge. Lena died 5 March 2000 in Chatsworth, Murray County, Georgia.

The Pritchetts and Headricks are buried at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, in Crandall, Murray County, Georgia.
